Joseph L. Carlini is co-founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of McKean Defense Group, Inc., an engineering and technology solutions firm that provides life cycle engineering, sustainment and modernization support, and information technology/enterprise transformation services to the U.S. Navy and other federal customers. Headquartered at the former Navy Yard in Philadelphia, McKean Defense Group has over 650 employees with offices in Philadelphia, PA; Washington, D.C.; San Diego, CA; Virginia Beach, VA; Portsmouth, VA; and Crane, IN. McKean has been named a four-time “Philadelphia 100” fastest growing company, two-time “Inc. 500” fastest growing company in the U.S. and the “Top 50 Best Places to Work” in Washington, D.C.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Carlini was a Group Senior Vice President for Science Application International Corporation (SAIC), managing the $1B, 6,800- employee Naval Engineering and Technology Solutions Group. SAIC is a FORTUNE 500® scientific, engineering and technology applications company that solves problems of vital importance to the nation and the world, in the areas of national security, energy and the environment, critical infrastructure, and health. Earlier positions included management and engineering assignments with AMSEC and Presearch, also focused on Defense and Federal customers.
Mr. Carlini is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers, and the Surface Navy Association. He is on the Board of Directors of CDI Corporation, Chairman of the Board of ClinicalRM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICON plc, the Philadelphia Police Foundation, and the Police Athletic League of Biographical notes for Joseph L. Additionally, Mr. Carlini is the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for The Catholic University of America, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Malvern Preparatory School. Additionally, Mr. Carlini is also active in several Philadelphia-based schools and youth athletics and served three years as Athletic Director at St. Norbert School in Paoli, PA, and eight years on the board of directors for Conestoga General’s Pop Warner football association.
Mr. Carlini was born and grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and he currently lives in Malvern, PA, with his wife and their four children. He attended Central High School of Philadelphia and received his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
